The College at Littlemore was established as a retreat and study house by John Henry Newman, leader of the Oxford Movement, who in 1845 was received into the Catholic Church at Littlemore by Blessed Dominic Barberi. In 1951 the property was purchased by the Fathers of the Birmingham Oratory, the Congregation that Newman went on to found, who have since owned and maintained it. The College at Littlemore is made available for visits, Mass, pilgrimages, retreats and for Newman studies through the kindness of the sisters of the spiritual family The Work, who were invited by the Fathers of the Oratory to assist in the Newman apostolate at Littlemore. It was blessed and opened as the International Centre of Newman Friends by Archbishop Couve de Murville in 1987.|
